A baby gender testing kit is used to confirm the gender of a baby before birth.
- This is a Standalone Gender Determination method but can be done with a prenatal paternity test. LEARN MORE
- Our partner laboratory is the only one in the UK to perform prenatal DNA testing in-house.
- We will only send samples abroad by DHL, if the customer will return the samples to the laboratory by express courier service (DHL preferably).
- This allows the laboratory to test quickly and helps to prevent blood samples from spoiling.

How does the baby gender test work?
The baby’s gender testing kit requires a blood sample from the mother. This blood sample is processed to determine if foetal DNA is present within the mother’s bloodstream. DNA scientists use a laboratory technique called Next Generation Sequencing to analyse the expectant mother’s blood and look for any Y-chromosomal DNA.
Everyone has a pair of sex chromosomes in each cell. The Y chromosome is present in males, who have one X and one Y chromosome, while females have two X chromosomes. As the Y chromosome is male-specific, the detection of a Y chromosome is indicative of a male child. If foetal DNA is detected without a Y chromosome it is indicative of a female child.
Reasons to choose baby gender testing
- Express, accurate, and safe test
- There is no risk to the mother or the unborn child when taking this test as the gender-baby test is a non-invasive DNA test. A blood sample is all that is needed, which is usually taken from the mother’s arm. However, the mother must be at least 8 weeks pregnant to ensure that any Y chromosome present is at a detectable level.
- The results will be available in 4 or 7 working days.
Please note that the results of the baby’s gender DNA test are for information purposes to help with planning for your baby’s arrival. Knowledge of the gender of the baby can help when preparing baby showers, decorating nurseries and buying clothes, etc. The results of this test are not to be used for the purpose of gender selection.
Brashan DNA is located in Ditton, Aylesford. Kent. We readily post DNA testing kits all over the world.
Non-invasive gender test
A non-invasive method can also be used to determine the gender of a baby before birth by using an ultrasound scan from around 16 weeks. However, this shouldn’t be relied upon because it can often give wrong results. If the technician can’t get a clear view of the baby’s genitals, it may not be possible to tell for sure. The baby may be positioned awkwardly, the scan may not be as clear as needed or the technician may not have sufficient expertise to interpret the image. The only way to scientifically determine the gender of your baby is with the next-generation sequencing test and it can be done at a much earlier stage of the pregnancy. The gender of an unborn baby may also be determined with a prenatal paternity DNA test more cheaply.
